Prologue
MAZANLI WAS FOUNDED IN SPRING 2016 UNDER THE ORIGINAL NAME TATKRAFT BY SÜLEYMAN MAZANLI IN BERLIN. BORN AND RAISED IN THE BERLIN DISTRICT OF WEDDING, HE COMPLETED HIS ECONOMICS DEGREE AT THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF BERLIN IN 2014. THE FOCUS OF HIS STUDIES WAS ON ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMICS. IN 2015 HE REORIENTED HIMSELF AND COMPLETED FURTHER TRAINING WITH A FOCUS ON SAP SYSTEMS. HOWEVER, HIS EYE FOR DESIGN AND AESTHETICS WOULD SIGNIFICANTLY CHANGE THE COURSE OF HIS CAREER.
Chapter 1: The Founding
ORIGINALLY, SÜLEYMAN MAZANLI WAS LOOKING FOR A METAL BED THAT COMBINED MINIMALIST DESIGN WITH PURISTIC STYLE AND INDUSTRIAL CHARACTER. AFTER TEDIOUS AND UNSUCCESSFUL RESEARCH, HE DECIDED TO WELD HIS DREAM BED ACCORDING TO HIS OWN SPECIFICATIONS. WITHIN THREE MONTHS, THE VISION WAS REALIZED. THE IDEA TO FOUND A COMPANY ONLY OCCURRED TO HIM, HOWEVER, AFTER THE REQUEST FOR AN IDENTICAL PIECE FROM HIS CIRCLE OF FRIENDS AND ACQUAINTANCES WAS ENORMOUS.
Chapter 2: The Space Shortage
AFTER PUBLISHING THE FIRST IMAGES OF HIS BED, WHICH SÜLEYMAN MAZANLI HAD NAMED "ION – THE WANDERER," A LARGE ONLINE DESIGN RETAILER BECAME AWARE OF THE DELICATE PIECE OF FURNITURE. INITIALLY WITH 10 BEDS, WHICH HE STORED IN HIS PARENTS' GUEST ROOM, HE SOON FILLED THE ENTIRE APARTMENT UP TO THE FRONT DOOR WITH THE STEEL FRAMES. THE TIME FOR THE NEXT STEP HAD COME – AN OLD INDUSTRIAL HALL WITH 650 SQM IN THE NORTH OF BERLIN WAS TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION.
Chapter 3: The Expansion
The first major order of over 85 beds from Switzerland brought the young company its first international successes. Magazines, newspapers and online blogs from all over Europe carried the name ION beyond the borders of the German-speaking world. Orders from all corners of the European continent came in. This was followed by collaborations with production companies such as Constantin Film, as well as renowned cultural institutions such as the Paris Opera or the Lobe Block artist residence in Berlin, designed by renowned architect Arno Brandlhuber.
Chapter 4: Today
Back then, Süleyman Mazanli was not aware that he was not only welding his own bed, but working on a successful product on which, as of early 2024, nearly 1000 people will spend half their lives. Since its founding, the bed lovingly named ION by him has been constantly improved and continuously tested.
